New Homes in Ipswich
Ipswich enjoys a rich cultural tradition and has recently undergone a modern retelling. In this process, Ipswich has become a vibrant country town, becoming the third largest settlement in the UK's East England region.
Introducing Ipswich
The modern name of Ipswich is taken from its medieval roots of Gippeswick. This is probably named after the River Gipping, which is the non tidal section of the River Orwell. As such, Ipswich is a non industrial region of Suffolk near the bank of River Orwell, surrounded by Felixtown in Suffolk and Harwicke and Colchester in Essex. Ever since Saxon times, and later the Romans, Ipswich was a popular town because of its ports and access to the River Orwell. However, when Felixstowe and Harwicke came up as major ports as well, Ipswich took the backseat for a while. Since the 1970s though, London has been using Ipswich as a secondary hub for multinational offices such as The Royal Bank of Scotland, Willis Group, Norwich Union, etc. Ever since then, Ipswich has been going through a major revival and now you will see many centuries of architecture sitting comfortably side by side together in Ipswich.

Around Ipswich
Since Ipswich was once a major port, even today it enjoys the benefits of being just a stone's throw away from many interesting places. Here is a short list of some places around Ipswich.
Woodbridge is an attractive little market town just ten miles out of Ipswich. In Tudor times, it was a busy port, but now it is home mostly to retired city dwellers who like to spend time on their boats. There are many remnants of Woodbridge's past, one of them being a mill that was used to feed soldiers during the Napoleonic wars.
Sutton Hoo is another interesting place right around Ipswich. This was a burial place for Angle Saxon royalty, laid to rest among hoards of gold and valuables. Waldringfield and Newbourne are also two more towns just out of Ipswich that have a great view of the River Deben and some nice pubs. Rendlesham Forest is just five miles outside of Ipswich. You might think this is just a good place to cycle around, but it is also the only place in the UK with a verified UFO sighting as well!
Orford Castle is twelve miles away from Woodbridge and is in excellent condition for a castle eight hundred years old. Orford itself is a nice quaint village, with some nice pubs and a taste for fish and chips.
Levington is between Ipswich and Felixstowe. It sits on a river estuary and if you time your visit right, you will be able to catch the flights of migratory birds that pass through here every year.
